. For the third year running, we hosted STAGE FRIGHT to launch the fabulous London Horror Festival. Three plays short listed and performed live to special guest judge Seth Patrick. First up we had Special Delivery by Elizabeth Adlington, which focused on a couple following the delivery of a rather unusual teddy bear. Next came Tears from the Pillow by Gabrielle Wright, a touching yet spine-chilling tale about a man in a coma (we daren’t reveal any more). Finally, Pete Barrett’s Forever Amber told the story of a cantankerous lord with a passion for taxidermy. The award went to Pete Barrett’s FOREVER AMBER, but you can listen to all three productions here.
3 short horror plays submitted as part of londonhorrorfestival.com‘s first ever STAGE FRIGHT competition, followed by a live performance from Richard O’Brien (Rocky Horror Show) including the Time Warp.
Comedy. Ladies was inspired by the very real and very fraught campaign at the turn of the 20th Century to build a ladies’ loo just outside Camden Town tube. Restricted toilet facilities for women were causing social, political and economic problems. Starring Alison Steadman and Rachel Atkins, and recorded live, this is an enjoyable fictionalised account of the real battle for a ladies’ loo in London.
The debut radio play from Carolyn Harris and Parliamentary Member for Glasgow South Tom Harris. It’s a hilarious comedy about the political machinations in and around the formation of the Coalition – focusing on Member of Parliament Geoff Henderson, whose domestic arrangements are thrown into severe disarray when his wife Louise decides to stand for parliament. Carolyn and Tom write about Parliamentary life with authenticity and honesty, this is a ‘must listen’ play for fans of political comedy!
Recorded in front of a live audience at The Lost Theatre. Amelie’s Party was written, produced and performed in just 36 hours. 9 actors, 1 director, a sound and tech crew and a beat-boxer met on Friday morning and by Saturday night they performed a completed live recording with visuals. This is that play. With a nod to the king of improvisation, Mike Leigh, we affectionately named our piece Amelie’s Party – please enjoy.
